Owls Head Fire Department Reports Active January and Ongoing Winter Preparedness Efforts
February 10, 2026 — The Owls Head Fire Department has released its January 2026 monthly report, highlighting a steady month of emergency responses, apparatus maintenance, and continued training to ensure readiness throughout the winter season. During January, crews responded to seven calls for service, including one odor investigation, two false fire alarms, one cooking fire, one ambulance assist, one citizen assist, and one mutual aid structure fire assisting the South Thomaston Fire Department.
In addition to emergency responses, the department completed important maintenance on Engine 2 after discovering a sidewall crack and leak in one of the rear tires. With the remaining rear tires also unlikely to pass inspection this spring, the department proactively replaced all four rear tires. Officials noted that the upgrades will help ensure Engine 2 remains dependable and road-ready throughout the harsh Maine winter conditions.
Training also remained a priority. Firefighters participated in their regular monthly drill at the Rockland Fire Department, where they focused on forcible entry techniques. Department leaders emphasized that consistent, hands-on training strengthens efficiency and preparedness when responding to time-sensitive emergencies.
As winter temperatures continue to drop, the department is reminding residents to take precautions with home heating. Officials advise keeping combustible materials at least three feet away from heating equipment, plugging space heaters directly into wall outlets without extension cords, and ensuring chimneys are properly cleaned and inspected. The department encourages the community to stay safe and warm as winter conditions persist.
