On February 6, 2026, a probationary member of the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department took part in Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) training as part of the Firefighter 1 program at the Hartford County Regional Fire School. The hands-on training focused on proper use, inspection, and emergency procedures associated with SCBA equipment, which is critical for firefighter safety during interior fire operations and other hazardous environments. The Firefighter 1 curriculum provides foundational skills for new members, combining classroom instruction with practical evolutions designed to simulate real-world conditions. Department leadership noted the importance of ongoing training to ensure members are fully prepared to protect the community safely and effectively. Chief Schroll commended the probationary firefighter’s dedication and commitment to completing the rigorous program. Photos were credited to John DeForest Jr.
