CONCORD, MA - Two dogs slid through thin ice into freezing water near Lowell Road on January 16th, prompting the Concord Fire Department to respond.
While Group 3 members provided assistance from the beach, Firefighters McChesney and Heil used cold-weather rescue techniques to enter the water. The animals were safely returned to land after being secured by the crews. There were no reported injuries.
Temperature variations and flowing water can cause ice conditions to alter rapidly. Fire officials emphasize that there is no ice that is totally safe. The public is cautioned not to try to pull a person or pet out of the ice.
