February 11, 2026 – This past weekend, the Amityville Fire Department responded to two working structure fires within the Village of Amityville as freezing temperatures and winter conditions created additional challenges for firefighters. Despite the harsh weather, crews quickly brought both incidents under control through coordinated interior and exterior operations, preventing the fires from spreading to neighboring homes and minimizing further property damage. Firefighters operated for extended periods in subfreezing conditions, relying on teamwork, training, and mutual aid support to successfully mitigate both emergencies.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by North Amityville, Copiague, Massapequa, North Lindenhurst, Lindenhurst, East Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, Farmingdale Village, Seaford, and West Babylon Fire Departments. Islip Exchange Ambulance provided firefighter rehabilitation services, while Suffolk County Fire and Rescue Emergency Services and the American Red Cross assisted at the scenes. Department officials credited the collective response and strong inter-agency cooperation as instrumental in protecting surrounding properties and ensuring firefighter safety. The Amityville Fire Department expressed its gratitude to all responding agencies and reaffirmed its commitment to serving the community—always ready, always there.
