On January 11, 2026, the Suffolk County Fire Academy held its second graduation ceremony for the Junior/Cadet Basic Exterior Firefighter Operations Course at the Selden Fire Department, recognizing 17 Junior and Cadet Firefighters who successfully completed the rigorous 15-week program. Among the graduates was Bay Shore Fire Department Junior Captain Louis Lodato, who balanced the demanding course alongside high school, BOCES, department responsibilities, home life, and the commitments of being a teenager. The program provides foundational training in exterior firefighting operations, preparing young members for future service while reinforcing discipline, teamwork, and safety. Captain Lodato becomes the third Bay Shore junior member in two years to complete the respected academy program, marking another milestone for the department’s growing junior firefighter initiative. Department leadership and community members praised his dedication and commitment to service, congratulating him on this significant achievement.
