January 8, 2026 — On the afternoon of January 8, the Bay Shore Fire Department assisted the Suffolk County Police Department with a report of a distressed individual on the Brook Avenue Bridge. Multiple Bay Shore Fire Department units responded to the scene and quickly implemented precautionary rescue measures. Fire crews deployed a safety jump mat moments before the individual jumped from the bridge, successfully breaking her fall and preventing more serious injuries. Due to the coordinated efforts of first responders, the patient sustained only minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and care. Officials credited the swift actions and preparedness of responding personnel with helping to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
