The Binghamton Fire Department announced Steve Pancoast's retirement after over 20 years of service to the city. Pancoast was employed in September 2005 and started his career on the Tower in Group D. He later served with Quint 3 in Group B before moving on to Quint 2 in January 2010, where he finished his career. Colleagues praised him as reliable and industrious, having a consistent presence on the fireground. He was also well known in the firehouse for his cooking, humor, and ability to keep crews connected during long shifts.
