January 31, 2026 — Firefighters from Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR), Melrose Fire Department, and Windsor Fire Department responded late Friday night to a fire involving a double-wide mobile home.
Officials said the incident began as an exterior fire that quickly spread up the side of the structure and into the attic. Dry conditions and wind contributed to the fire extending beyond the home, igniting a brush fire that threatened nearby structures across several acres.
Crews operated in freezing temperatures and difficult conditions while working to contain both the structure fire and the advancing brush fire. Support from the Florida Forest Service (DOF) was instrumental in stopping the spread and bringing the incident under control.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials are reminding residents that a countywide burn ban remains in effect due to extremely dry conditions and urge everyone to follow fire safety guidelines to help prevent similar incidents.
