Commercial building fire; Firefighter injury with additional units called to the scene

Henrico County, Virginia. February 4, 2021. Henrico Fire units responded to the 5700 block of East Port Blvd off Charles City Road and Laburnum Ave. First fire unit arrived at 10:27 PM to find smoke in a large commercial building. The automatic fire sprinkler system had activated and the building was evacuated. Fire crews located the fire at 10:34 PM and had zero visibility in and around the warehouse. By 10:50 the fire spread was under control.

At 22:40 PM, one firefighter fell from a bay door to the ground and has been transport to VCU for treatment with minor injuries. Additional fire units were called to the scene to assist with property protection. Chesterfield Fire responded with a specialized fire unit to assist with smoke removal. A total of 15 fire apparatus and several command officers are on scene.

Henrico Fire Marshal’s office is working with building occupant and fire personnel to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
