The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department spent time on January 31st removing fire hydrants throughout the area after the winter storms. Firefighters worked throughout many neighborhoods, clearing over 40 hydrants to keep them accessible in the case of a fire. Keeping hydrants free during the winter allows staff to restore water supply more quickly and safely during emergencies. Snow-covered or clogged hydrants can cause delays in operations, thus frequent checks are an important aspect of winter readiness.
