February 3, 2026 — Brooks County Fire Department and the City of Quitman Fire Department have officially entered into an automatic aid agreement aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities and improving public safety across jurisdictional boundaries. The agreement unites two agencies under a shared mission to reduce response times, increase firefighter and citizen safety, and make more efficient use of personnel and resources. Under the terms of the agreement, Brooks County Fire Department will automatically dispatch one engine to all reported building fires within the City of Quitman, while the City of Quitman Fire Department will automatically send one engine to all reported building fires in Brooks County. All responses will be coordinated through the centralized Brooks County 911 Dispatch Center. Officials emphasized that the agreement does not alter departmental governance, staffing, or funding, but instead represents a proactive and responsible step toward ensuring residents receive timely, professional emergency services when they are needed most.
