Sturbridge, MA — January 12th — Throughout the shift, Sturbridge Firefighters Local 170 on-duty staff maintained Tower 1's equipment while staying ready for any emergencies. In addition to cleaning, grinding, and repainting the hydraulic jack pads, crews also degreased and lubricated the aerial ladder.
Tower 1, which has been in operation for 21 years, is still essential to rescue and firefighting efforts. Frequent maintenance keeps the equipment dependable, safe, and prepared for action. In between calls, firefighters frequently perform preventative maintenance and other repairs in their homes. To ensure fleet safety and operational preparedness, more complicated or specialized work is delegated to certified contractors.
