Sturbridge, MA — January 10th — On Friday night, Sturbridge Firefighters Local 170 arrived at 407 Main Street in response to a reported dog ice rescue. In order to augment the limited on-duty manpower, a first-alarm assignment was made after Rescue 1 was sent to the scene.
Two firefighters were already on duty when six off-duty firefighters were called back to help. Car 2 was first alerted and then canceled, while Engine 2 was tasked with supporting activities. To finish the rescue, crews worked along the ice-covered terrain and set up secure entry points. The dog was successfully pulled from the ice by firefighters without any injuries being reported. Rescue 1 and Engine 2 cleared the scene and resumed operations after the rescue.
