STRATFORD, CT - Around 10:15 P.M. on the freezing cold night of Friday, February 3rd, the Stratford ECC began receiving multiple calls reporting a structure fire in the 1 block of Shea Terrace. Approximately 30 calls were received on this fire due to the wind banking the smoke down to the street over long distances.

Stratford dispatched Engines 1, 2 and 4, along with Tac 5, Truck 1, and Car 3 to the scene. With the multiple calls, Engine 3 was requested to the scene pre-arrival, bringing the assignment to a second-alarm. Engine 2 arrived first on scene and confirmed a well-involved one-and-a-half story private dwelling.

Companies were able to knock down the majority of the exterior fire on tank water as water supplies were being secured. A fifth engine was requested from Milford to provide a Rapid Intervention Team for standby at the scene. Over the next 20 minutes, companies aggressively battled heavy fire on all floors of the structure and were soon able to knock down the fire. Crews remained on scene for over an hour for extensive overhaul.

Stratford Fire Car 1, Car 2, Car 4, Car 5, and FM-1 also responded along with Stratford EMS' standby crews, and 8-Delta-1, 8-Delta-2, 8-Delta-5, and 8-Delta-9. Five residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation at the scene, with three being transported to the hospital. The Stratford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of this fire.
