On Saturday, January 21, 2023, the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center received reports that a car had crashed into SportClips on Black Rock Turnpike. Engine 2, Ladder 2, and Car 3 were dispatched to the scene. Upon further reports that the car was possibly smoking, Car 3 requested for Engine 3 to be added to the assignment. Car 3, under the command of Asst. Chief Roger Caisse, soon arrived and reported a car had struck the front of the building. There was no entrapment and no smoke or fire. Engine 3 was quickly released with Ladder 2 soon after. The building was occupied at the time of the crash. One witness, Joe Cihak was about a minute into his haircut when the accident occurred, "(I heard) A loud smash, then glass hitting the floor. Look up. (The) front door is completely gone." To make matters worse for Joe, his car was also struck by the striking vehicle. Members from Engine 2 and AMR assessed the elderly driver of the striking vehicle who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Crews then worked to ensure the safe removal of the vehicle from the front of the building and make the scene safe for people to pass through. The staff at SportClips, once allowed to re-occupy the building, allowed Mr. Cihak to come in to finish his haircut. This incident is under investigation by the Fairfield Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Unit.
