Shrewsbury, MA — January 14th — To enhance coordinated response operations, the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts Fire Department trained in ice rescue alongside Worcester EMS and the Shrewsbury Police Department. The exercise's main objectives were to teach EMS and law enforcement partners about fire department ice rescue techniques and to determine how each agency can help in situations involving locals and guests.

The Shrewsbury Police Drone Unit used a thermal imaging camera to demonstrate newly discovered capabilities as part of the training. The drone hovered above the target area, mapped coordinates, and supplied real-time information to assist in locating a victim on the ice. Crews can use this information to determine a last-seen point for diving operations in the event that a victim submerges.
