The Melbourne Police Department (MPD) is investigating an early morning incident involving a northbound Florida East Coast Railway freight train transporting lime rock and a pedestrian. The event occurred at the tracks on New Haven Ave., resulting in downtown traffic being rerouted due to the train's length, which blocked multiple crossings. An adult female who was under the train was pronounced deceased on the tracks after the train was moved. The medical examiner and MPD are investigating the case as a possible suicide. This incident marks the first train-related fatality in Brevard County this year.
