On January 23, the Guilderland Fire Department conducted a live demonstration of its Hazardous Materials and Structural Firefighting Decontamination Unit. The demonstration was held earlier in the day and focused on how the unit is used during emergency operations. Members of the media attended the event to observe the process, ask questions, and learn more about the development of the program. The department explained that the unit is designed to help reduce firefighter exposure to contaminants encountered during structure fires and hazardous materials incidents.

Fire Chief Sean Smith led the demonstration, guiding attendees through each step of the decontamination process. Officials noted that the unit can be deployed quickly on scene and is an added layer of protection for firefighters operating in high-risk environments.
