Members of the Deposit Fire Department are informing people of a significant Verizon service outage that affects an estimated 175,000 customers nationwide. Verizon officials stated that engineers are actively trying to determine the source of the outage and restore service.

During cellular outages, emergency services organizations frequently experience an increase in call traffic due to communication concerns. Verizon customers who are affected and have access to a wireless internet connection may be able to use their mobile phones' Wi-Fi Calling capability as an alternative means to make calls. The Deposit Fire Department also reminded citizens that an emergency call box is available at the front of the fire station, 130 Second Street, Deposit. The call box connects directly to 9-1-1 dispatchers and can be utilized when other ways to contact emergency services are unavailable. Residents are asked to be aware of alternative options during service outages.
