The Hammonton Fire Department announced on January 31st that a number of its members have finished their technician-level training and Ice and Cold Water Rescue Operations over the weekend. As part of a regional initiative to improve winter rescue capabilities, firefighters trained alongside members of Alloway Fire Company and Mullica Township (Elwood).
The Gloucester County Fire Academy provided support for the course, which integrated classroom learning with practical experience in real-world settings. Responder safety, shore-based rescue techniques, the impact of cold water on victims, and the use of specialist ice rescue equipment were all discussed in the training. On ice and in open water, participants also finished scenario-based exercises. The department also acknowledged local partners who supported the training by providing facilities and logistical assistance.
