January 1, 2026— Berkley Fire/Rescue crews responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Bryant Street late Wednesday morning that left the vehicle operator trapped inside due to heavy damage and the vehicle’s position against a utility pole.
At approximately 11:53 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the scene for a report of a vehicle versus utility pole. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle resting against the pole, preventing safe access to the trapped operator.
Firefighters initiated a technical extrication, working in coordination with Flint’s Towing, which assisted by carefully winching the vehicle away from the utility pole. Once the vehicle was repositioned, fire personnel were able to safely deploy extrication tools and free the operator.
The operator was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for evaluation of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Berkley Fire/Rescue credited the coordinated response between fire crews, Berkley Police, and Flint’s Towing for the successful and safe resolution of the incident, particularly under winter road conditions.
