January 1, 2026 — Members of the Yarmouth Fire Department’s C-Shift completed ice rescue training earlier that week, focusing on safe and effective operations in cold water and unstable ice conditions.
The training emphasized critical components of ice rescue response, including scene safety, firefighter self-rescue, victim access and removal, and coordinated team operations. These skills are essential when operating in environments where conditions can rapidly deteriorate and risks are high for both victims and responders.
Department officials noted that ice-related emergencies are low-frequency but high-risk incidents, making hands-on training vital to maintaining readiness. Regular drills ensure firefighters remain proficient with specialized equipment and techniques needed to safely manage these challenging rescues.
The Yarmouth Fire Department reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing training, ensuring personnel are prepared to respond effectively while continuing to provide a high level of service and safety to the community.
