In response to a Battalion 7 box alert, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was sent on mutual assistance into River Vale on January 6 at around 1:30 p.m. to help with an electric car fire. In order to help fire suppression efforts, Engine 1 was tasked with setting up a water supply and extending a handline. When the personnel arrived, they found a car that had hit a utility pole and brought down high-tension power wires. Firefighters remained where they were until PSE&G brought electricity to the area because of the electrical hazard. Once the scene was made safe, crews resumed operations and completed knockdown of the main body of fire.
