January 25, 2026 — In anticipation of the day’s winter storm, Bourne Fire/Rescue and Emergency Services increased staffing levels to ensure full readiness for emergencies throughout the town.
Under normal operations, personnel cross-staff fire apparatus and ambulances. For the storm, the department expanded coverage so each fire station was staffed with a full engine company and a fully staffed ambulance. An additional Chief Officer was assigned to the south side of town, while the Shift Deputy Chief covered the north side, strengthening overall command and coordination during hazardous conditions.
The enhanced staffing proved critical when the Monument Beach crew and the Deputy Chief responded to a possible carbon monoxide incident. While that call was underway, the engine company was able to clear and respond to a passenger vehicle fire with assistance from the Buzzards Bay engine company. The added coverage ensured ambulance crews remained available to handle other emergencies without delay.
Officials reported no significant increase in storm-related calls but urged residents to stay off the roads unless necessary and to allow DPW and road crews to operate safely. The department thanked the community for its cooperation and reminded residents to remain cautious as winter weather continues.
