At about 16:30hrs on Tuesday afternoon London Fire Brigade responded to reports of a collapsed building in Ilford East London.
The building belonging to City Gates Christian Centre was under construction at the time of collapse.
The five storey building's metal framework and scaffolding came crashing down leaving the complex beyond repair.
A tower crane on the site was left in a precarious position.
There were fears that construction workers on the site might be trapped in the twisted metal and initial reports of one person injured being treated on the scene by London Ambulance Service paramedics.
Six fire engines, four fire rescue units and two command units and Urban Search and Rescue were all deployed to the scene.
USAR Search dogs were used to search the devastated site but no one else was found.
Six vehicles were damaged during the collapse as debris fell into a car park belonging to the local council.
The Metropolitan police evacuated shops and a hotel close to the scene and put in place a cordon around the area, this is likely to be in place for some time whilst the area is made safe and the tower crane is dealt with.
London Fire Brigade report that they left the scene at 22:00hrs Tuesday night.
