January 26, 2026 — Following recent winter storms that left many neighborhoods blanketed in snow and ice, the Providence Fire Department is asking residents to assist by clearing snow from their nearest fire hydrants. Fire officials emphasized that while crews work diligently to clear hydrants between emergency calls, access to hydrants during a fire can be critical and every second counts. Residents are encouraged to remove snow and ice from hydrants, maintain at least three feet of clearance around them, and ensure a clear path to the street. Department leaders noted that community cooperation can significantly improve emergency response times and help firefighters protect lives and property during winter emergencies.
