January 24, 2026 — As winter storm conditions moved into the area, fire officials issued a safety reminder urging residents to take extra precautions to reduce the risk of home fires during severe winter weather. Officials emphasized that colder temperatures, power outages, and increased use of heating equipment significantly raise the likelihood of residential fires during winter storms. Residents were reminded to test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, use space heaters safely by keeping them at least three feet away from combustible materials, and never operate generators or grills indoors or in enclosed spaces.

Fire officials also encouraged households to prepare for potential power outages by using flashlights instead of candles, keeping fresh batteries on hand, and ensuring driveways and visible house numbers are clear of snow and ice to allow quick emergency access if needed. Crews reported they are actively monitoring conditions and remain fully prepared to respond to emergencies throughout the storm. Residents experiencing an emergency were reminded to dial 911 and to stay weather-aware, prepared, and fire-safe as the storm continues.
