January 16, 2026 — Earlier today, crews from Lake Mishnock Fire/Rescue, working alongside West Greenwich Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, responded to a reported odor of gas in an occupied commercial building in West Greenwich. Upon arrival, fire personnel conducted a thorough investigation and determined the source to be a malfunctioning rooftop heating unit that caused a small gas leak confined to a specific area. Using gas detection equipment, crews accurately located the issue and performed atmospheric monitoring throughout the structure. Meter readings showed minimal to no detectable gas levels within occupied spaces. The affected system was secured, and the incident was mitigated without injury or further hazard. The Town Fire Marshal also assisted on scene, and the coordinated response ensured a safe and efficient resolution.
