January 11, 2026 — The Warren Fire Department conducted comprehensive ice rescue training this week, ensuring firefighters and EMS personnel remain prepared for one of the department’s highest-risk, lowest-frequency emergencies. Although weather conditions did not allow for on-ice operations, crews trained indoors using ice rescue equipment carried on Special Hazards and Brush 1. The session included a situational overview of local bodies of water frequently used by residents, presented with mapping tools to reinforce response planning. Medical instruction focused on the recognition and treatment of hypothermia, emphasizing rapid assessment and coordinated care. Members then participated in hands-on drills to practice deployment techniques and victim removal procedures. Department officials noted that repetitive training is critical to building muscle memory and readiness for time-sensitive ice rescue incidents.
