Residents are encouraged to consider joining the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department, which has announced that it is currently accepting new members. In addition to junior firefighters between the ages of 15 and 18, the department is looking for adult firefighters who are at least 18 years old. As members of a volunteer emergency services organization, they get training, tools, and the chance to help the community.

To find out more about membership, interested parties are welcome to stop by the firehouse on the first or third Monday of every month between 7 and 9 p.m. Younger members can receive supervised training and exposure to the fire service through the department's Junior Firefighter program, which meets on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.
