The Southard Fire Dept. No. 1 issued a reminder to residents as a winter storm approaches, asking for help keeping fire hydrants clear of snow and ice. Fire officials stressed that hydrant access is critical during emergencies, especially during winter weather when response times can be affected by road and weather conditions. Snow-covered or blocked hydrants can delay water supply operations when crews arrive on scene.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to clear at least three feet of space around hydrants near their properties. Clearing a path allows firefighters to quickly connect hose lines and maintain water flow during fire operations.
Fire departments across New Jersey routinely emphasize hydrant maintenance during winter months as part of community fire prevention efforts. Southard Fire Dept. No. 1 thanked residents for their cooperation and continued support in helping maintain safe and effective emergency response conditions.
