Gloucester City, NJ — Jan. 27 — Freezing weather made it safe for members of the Westville Fire Department and Gloucester City Firefighters and Fire Officers to participate in their yearly Ice Rescue Operations refresher training. Firefighters rehearsed methods for handling ice and cold-water crises at the Mini-Hole.

Crews went over patient removal and safety protocols, as well as how to use ice rescue suits, ropes, and rescue equipment. Additionally, members concentrated on teamwork, communication, and working in frigid climates. Every winter, communities with frozen ponds and rivers conduct ice rescue training to stay prepared. As training continues, residents may see firefighters working in the Mini-Hole all week.
