January 15, 2026 — Members of the Closter Volunteer Fire Department participated in specialized training focused on electric vehicle (EV) emergency response during an evening class held in Emerson, New Jersey. The session provided firefighters with updated knowledge on the construction, battery systems, and safety considerations associated with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). As EVs become more common on local roadways, the training emphasized responder safety, proper vehicle identification, shutdown procedures, and tactics for managing incidents involving high-voltage systems. Closter firefighters thanked the Emerson Fire Department for the invitation and for hosting the informative program, noting that continued regional cooperation and training are essential to maintaining preparedness for evolving emergency response challenges.
