In order to lower the danger of home fires, the Burlington Township Fire Department issued a winter safety reminder on January 23 urging citizens to adhere to appropriate heating and fireplace practices. It is recommended that residents avoid burning paper and keep everything combustible at least three feet away from fireplaces. Before leaving the house or going to bed, fires should always be completely put out. Every year, a certified specialist should inspect and clean chimneys.

Ashes should be kept outside at least 10 feet away from the house in a metal container with a lid. Additionally, the government advises keeping remote controls and fireplace switches out of children's reach and utilizing a glass or metal screen to minimize sparks. Throughout the winter, these actions support safer heating.
