Deptford Township, NJ — 5th January — Residents are being reminded by the Deptford Fire Department that volunteering can still be a New Year's resolution. Depending on their age and interests, community members can volunteer in a variety of ways, according to department officials. Those who are willing to earn their New Jersey Firefighter I certification can work as firefighters; training and equipment are supplied. While developing skills for future service, junior members between the ages of 16 and 17 can respond to emergencies under supervision. Early exposure to the fire service and collaboration is provided to cadets between the ages of 12 and 15. Other options include helping as fire police with traffic control at emergency sites and joining the department's canteen section, which offers rehabilitation services during significant incidents throughout Gloucester County.
