On January 19, the Cranford Fire Department honored and remembered the lives lost, the survivors, and the first responders impacted by the tragic fire at Seton Hall University in 2000. Three students lost their lives and numerous more were injured in the off-campus residence hall fire, which had a long-lasting effect on their families, the university, and the neighborhood.
Every year, Alvaro and Shawn, two fire survivors, join the department to talk with seniors at Cranford High School about their experiences and the significance of fire prevention. Their message guarantees that the lessons acquired from the catastrophe are passed on to future generations and serves to increase awareness of fire prevention.
