December 31, 2025 — Members of the Fairfax Fire Department conducted two nights of hands-on technical rescue training focused on preparing crews for complex winter emergencies in rural conditions. The sessions emphasized large-area search operations and man-versus-machine rescues, ensuring firefighters remain ready to respond regardless of weather or terrain. During the large-area search evolution, crews located a simulated injured victim in wooded terrain and safely removed them using an ATV. The man-versus-machine scenario challenged members to carefully extricate a simulated victim trapped in a snow blower, reinforcing critical skills in patient protection, tool control, and coordinated rescue operations. The department noted that more than just technical ability, the training reinforced teamwork and communication under pressure. Officials extended special thanks to FF Matt Gillilan for providing property for the large-area search exercise, and to CCR Sales and Service for donating the snow blowers used during the training scenarios.
