January 6, 2026 — The Hinesburg Fire Department responded Tuesday to a reported kitchen fire at a residence off Pond Road, where quick thinking and preparedness by the occupants prevented the incident from escalating. At the time of dispatch, Hinesburg Engine 1 and Rescue 1 were committed to a fire alarm investigation in St. George, prompting the Fire Chief to request mutual aid from the Williston and Richmond Fire Departments while Engine 1 responded to the Pond Road address. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that an oven fire had already been extinguished by the homeowner using a portable fire extinguisher. Although the flames were out, smoke had filled the home, requiring extensive ventilation. After conditions were deemed safe, the residence was turned back over to the occupants. Fire officials credited the residents’ immediate 911 call, correct use of the PASS method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep), and prompt evacuation for preventing what could have become a far more serious fire. Firefighters also confirmed that the home’s smoke and carbon monoxide alarms were in date and functioning properly. The department praised the coordinated mutual aid response and emphasized that calling 911 right away—even if a fire appears out—remains critical to ensuring safety and minimizing damage.
