December 23, 2025 — The Hinesburg Fire Department is reminding residents of the critical role working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms play in home safety and is offering free in-home alarm checks for residents of Hinesburg and St. George. The reminder comes as firefighters highlighted the stark contrast between an outdated, yellowed alarm and a modern, properly functioning unit, urging homeowners to take a closer look at their own devices. Fire officials note that aging, dusty, or rarely tested alarms may fail when they are needed most. As part of the department’s community risk reduction efforts, firefighters will check alarm placement, test existing units, and install new combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms if equipment is missing, outdated, or improperly located. The service is provided at no cost and is conducted without lights or sirens. Residents are encouraged to call the Hinesburg Fire Department to schedule a visit, emphasizing that early detection and proper alerting remain the first and most important steps in preventing fire-related injuries and fatalities.
