December 30, 2025 — At approximately 4:00 p.m., the Colchester Fire Department, Colchester Rescue Squad, and Colchester Police Department responded to Mill Pond Road near the bridge for a report of a single vehicle that had left the roadway and entered the river with two occupants and possible injuries. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle upright and partially submerged. Both occupants had self-extricated prior to first responders’ arrival and were evaluated on scene by Colchester Rescue personnel; one patient was transported to the hospital with reported minor injuries. Due to icy roadway conditions, Mill Pond Road was reduced to one lane while the Colchester Department of Public Works applied additional salt to improve traction. Colchester Technical Rescue assisted towing operators with safely securing and removing the partially submerged vehicle. Once hazards were mitigated and the vehicle removed, the roadway was fully reopened. Officials thanked the public for their patience and reminded motorists to use caution, as winter conditions can change rapidly.
