December 6, 2025 — An early-morning electrical fire at a residence on East Road was quickly contained by the Colchester Fire Department after crews were dispatched at approximately 3:30 a.m. for reports of a burning odor inside the home. Firefighters encountered a light smoke haze upon arrival and, after continued investigation using thermal imaging and hands-on inspection, located heat and embers concealed within a wall cavity. The incident was upgraded to a working event as crews opened the wall and extinguished the hidden fire at its point of origin. The fire was determined to be electrical in nature, and due to early detection and rapid response, damage was limited to minor smoke and fire impact. No injuries were reported. The department responded with three engines, one ladder truck, and a command vehicle, underscoring the importance of calling 9-1-1 at the first sign of a potential fire.
