School Bus and Car Collide In Mastic ; One Transported to Hospital

Mastic Beach, NY — At approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 16, Mastic Ambulance Company and the Mastic Fire Department responded to a reported motor vehicle crash involving a school bus and a passenger car across from the Dunkin’ located at 490 Mastic Road.
Mastic Fire Department Engine 5-12-1 and Mastic Ambulance 5-37-18 arrived to find the school bus and car involved in the collision. Firefighters secured the vehicles and addressed roadway hazards while EMS personnel treated the driver of the passenger vehicle at a nearby Dunkin’ parking lot.
Fire Police units 5-12-80 and 5-12-7 assisted Suffolk County Police with traffic control, temporarily closing portions of Mastic Road to protect emergency responders and motorists.
Officials confirmed the school bus was not transporting students at the time of the crash. The bus driver was evaluated at the scene and declined medical treatment. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Suffolk County Police.
