The Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, Inc., and automatic mutual aid from the King Ferry Fire Department were sent by Cayuga County 911 shortly after noon on January 12th in response to a reported serious two-vehicle collision on NY Route 90 between East Venice Road and McAllister Road. Cars 1, 2, and 3, Engine 2, and Rescue 1 were Genoa's response. Within four minutes, Car 2 arrived, verified that there was a major entrapment, and asked for an all-hands activation. The request was granted for a medical helicopter from LifeNet of New York 7-12.
About 30 minutes after dispatch, crews finished extricating one occupant from the car, stabilised both vehicles, and treated patients. The truck driver refused to receive medical care. The New York State Police, Morey's Towing, and the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office provided assistance on the scene. Fire units helped with traffic control until late afternoon, after which the incident was given over to state police.
