FREMONT, NH — January 2 — Members of the Fremont NH Fire Rescue Department, which is based at 425 Main Street in Fremont, New Hampshire, arrived at a nearby farm to help rescue a large animal. When a horse stumbled on ice and was unable to get back up, crews were called.

A number of firefighters who had firsthand expertise with horses assisted in directing operations and gave members advice on safe lifting and positioning methods. Responders were able to help the horse safely regain its footing with the support of the horse's owners and an on-site veterinarian. After that, the horse was put back in its stall to warm up. The Fremont NH Police Department helped with traffic control and scene aid. During a rare winter rescue event, the reaction demonstrated cooperation, teamwork, and specialized knowledge.
