On Friday, January 2, 2026, just after 7:30 a.m., the Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue, the Woodstock Fire Department, the Campton Police Department, and Plymouth Fire-Rescue were sent to Perch Pond Road in Campton due to a reported building fire. A detached garage fire was reported at first. The chief of the New Hampton Fire Department and an off-duty member of the CTFD responded promptly and verified that a large structure was well involved with no exposures. The Holderness Fire Department, Ashland Fire Department, and Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety were asked to provide extra equipment and staff for a first-alarm assignment.

Engine 1 from CTFD Station 3 was the first engine on scene, with Engine 3 arriving shortly thereafter. Engine 3 laid a supply line down the driveway while Engine 1 began fire attack. Crews worked for approximately 40 minutes to knock down the bulk of the fire and remained on scene for an additional two hours extinguishing hot spots. Operations were impacted by bitter cold temperatures, which caused icing on supply lines and discharges and placed additional strain on personnel.

Waterville Valley Engine 1 set up a water source at a nearby bridge, and other equipment transported water to the location. The garage was completely destroyed, along with all of its belongings, which included two cars and other tools. There were no reported injuries. Although the origin of the fire is still being investigated, it is thought to be electrical in nature and not suspicious. While an engine from the Rumney Fire Department covered CTFD Station 1, a cover ambulance from Stewart's Ambulance Service responded to a different medical call in Thornton. Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue expressed gratitude to Plymouth Police Dispatch, New Hampshire 911, and Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid for their support.
