On December 28, Botsford Fire Rescue responded to a reported residential alarm activation in the Dodgingtown Fire District, which was later upgraded after the alarm company verified that there was a fire within the house. One side of the house had a working fire with fire through the roof, according to the first-arriving unit. An exposure was found on the B side, and large external propane tanks were off-gassing.
Before emptying its tank, Engine 551 first supplied Engine 221. In addition to a backup 2-inch line, crews used several handlines, including 1½-inch, 2-inch, and 2½-inch lines. After a mechanical problem with another device, Engine 551 was later draughted from a portable pond. Mutual aid tankers from Stepney Fire Department, Bethel Fire & EMS, and Stony Hill Fire Department supported operations. Despite heavy damage to the home, the garage and vehicles were saved. All residents and pets exited safely, and no firefighter injuries were reported. Cold temperatures and icy conditions added challenges, along with downed power lines that were secured during the incident.
