The East Brentwood Fire Department responded to a working commercial fire at 3 Oval Drive in Islandia as part of a mutual assistance assignment. On January 5, at 5:43 p.m., units were sent to Big Apple Sign Supply to support the Central Islip Fire Department. According to early accounts, smoke was apparent upon arrival and there was a fire in a compressor room. A 100-by-200-foot commercial building's two/three corner was confirmed to be on fire. Before switching to outside activities, crews first tried an internal attack.

Ladder 3-3-3, Ambulance 3-3-8, and Chiefs 3-3-31 and 3-3-32 were the EBFD's response. Truck operations, including aerial positioning and ventilation support, were carried out by Ladder 3-3-3. Prior to operating on the scene, ambulance 3-3-8 was staged. After being assessed for elevated blood pressure, one Central Islip firefighter declined medical evacuation. After around ninety minutes, the fire was under control. More than twenty organisations, including many fire departments, volunteer ambulance corps, Town of Islip Fire Marshals, Town of Islip Hazardous Materials, Suffolk County Police Arson Squad, Islip Town Coordinators, and Fire Rescue Emergency Services, helped out. At 8:08 p.m., all EBFD units were freed by command and put back into duty.
