Fire Service Mourns Line-of-Duty Death in Phoenicia

PHOENICIA, NY — December 13 — Michael Ryan, a 45-year active member and commissioner of the Phoenicia Fire District, was recognised by the emergency services community for his death while performing his duties. Ryan passed away while participating in a wildland rescue operation.


For almost forty years, Ryan held operational and managerial positions while serving his department and the community. He was well-known in the area for his steadfast leadership and experience. The Phoenicia Fire District members and Ryan's family received support from many departments, including the Halcottsville Fire Department. Firefighters, EMS professionals, and their families are all impacted by line-of-duty deaths. Ryan is regarded as a devoted public worker whose lengthy career demonstrated a commitment to teamwork, safety, and service.
