With great sorrow, the Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 announced the loss of two previous chiefs and devoted members who had left a lasting impact on the department and the community. Robert Murdock Sr., a life member and former chief, died on December 26 after a protracted illness. He was living in Florida at the time of his death. As the father of the late Chief Robert Murdock Jr., Chief Murdock carried on a strong family tradition in the fire service by serving the department with devotion.
The department also laments the passing of John Meyer, a 69-year Life Member, former Chief, and Trustee, who died on January 3. Chief Meyer was the oldest living former chief of the department and served in numerous leadership roles over nearly seven decades.
Wake and firematic services were held on Tuesday, January 6, at Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with firematic services beginning at 6:30 p.m. Department members extended their condolences to the families and honored both chiefs for their service and leadership.
