The Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department sadly reported that Past Chief Bob Napier had passed away on December 17 following a valiant fight with cancer. Chief Napier devoted his life to the fire service and has been a part of the department since the 1970s. He held every position in the department during his tenure, including assistant chief, chief, fire commissioner, lieutenant, and captain. In addition to Verdoy, he was the Town of Colonie Fire Coordinator and a member of many advisory groups at the New York State level. Colleagues remembered him as a mentor to new officers and firefighters and a steady presence within the organization. Chief Napier maintained tight ties to the fire service, continuing to monitor reactions and assist the department despite a severe sickness over the previous year. As a spouse, parent, fireman, and leader who had a long-lasting influence on the community, he is remembered. Funeral arrangements are pending and are expected to include full firefighter honors.
